The course is awarded by Pearson and it gives students a practical grounding in a range of business disciplines such as accounting, human resource management, operations management and marketing. The purpose of the course is to ensure the development of skills and knowledge to ensure employability in a wide range of business environments.
Assignment and activities are designed to simulate real-world situations. The course provides the opportunity to study for a year and gain the HNC qualification. Students can progress to a further year of study for HND in Business and can take a third year to study for a degree at the University of Bedfordshire or other Universities. There are eight modules each year, over two years. The course emphasises the development and assessment of practical skills relevant to a wide range of business careers. Stage one subjects include business, human resources, finance, marketing, enterprise and opportunity and business in context. Stage two builds further on these modules with an emphasis on skills as well as knowledge, for example, management skills development and the use of computer packages in accounting.

Students who complete the HND successfully may choose to top-up their studies to the final year of degree study in Marketing Management and Business and Management
This is a taught course consisting of eight modules per stage over two years. The timetable is arranged on one day a week, so the course can be combined with work. A wide variety of assessment methods are used on the course including assignments, group work, presentations, projects and examinations. You will build on a range of study and vocational skills including English, Maths and ICT during the course.
There are very few additional course costs for learners beyond the fee. You will need basic stationery, and a good USB stick and a scientific calculator are useful. We have an excellent library and good IT facilities at college, so if you don't have access to the internet at home, you can complete your work in college or at the University.
This course is eligible for Student Finance loans to cover fees and maintenance.
